Living at Sky Ranch
You can dream, you can fantasize, but there is nothing like living full time at Sky Ranch. Before the sun raises over the 2000' Hurricane Cliffs just to the east, the sky turns red, then pink, then gold. The high clouds catch the light and colors in puffy folds that go on forever.
Some of us jog, some bike, some hike and some take leisurely morning walks. The air is filled with soft fragrance of sage. Looking to the west, you see the early morning sun rays glowing on the pinnacles of Sand Mountain near Sand Hollow Reservoir. Usually, someone takes an early morning flight just for the fun of it. Sometimes our neighbors give us a little show as they put their planes through big crazy loops and fast fly-bys. Change comes on the buds of the cacti blooms, chaparral blossoms and silver sage with violet accents.
Midday is peaceful. The hawks and the other birds circle overhead, searching for updrafts from the cliffs. Partridge dart in and out, skittish as they escape. Road Runners hunt for lizards and small insects along the road and fence. Neighbors are returning from a fly-in luncheon and a shopping trip many highway miles away, a short hop by plane.
By afternoon the cliffs are getting long shadow and high contrasts. The sun is sinking lower and the desert is getting quiet. You think about this place ages ago, the first people, the first pioneers, the Anasazi. The sun is setting and the palette goes purple, violet chartreuse and the cliffs burn orange and gold.
Evening is here. Outdoor living is glorious at this time. Stars come out as you fire up the BBQ. And all those stars; I can't believe how many stars! The moon slides over the cliff tops and illuminates the landscape. Collected wood goes into the fire pit. Tonight has no breeze so we build a fire. The sparks drift and merge with the ski. The smoke of pinion pine curls up towards a shooting star. We make a wish like we were kids all over again. Tonight the coyotes call an eerie song that transforms the night into a Zane Gray Novel. You can almost see the lone rider, riding in the moonlight across the sea of desert to a dangerous rendezvous, or even better, to a romantic liaison.
Living at Sky Ranch can bring out that love of life that has been trapped inside for too long. Come on out an experience it yourself!
